Dr. Bao-Shuh Paul Lin is a research fellow and Life Chair Professor of Department of Computer Science and the past Chief Director of Microelectronics and Information Research Center(2009.8~2018.1), National Chiao Tung University (NCTU) in Hsinchu, Taiwan since September 2009. He was also the Director of Committee of Communication Industry Development (CoCID), Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) since 2001. He was the Vice President of Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) from 2001 to 2009 and the General Director of the Information & Communications Research Laboratories (ICL), Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) from 2001 to 2009.

Dr. Lin obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Chicago, Ill., USA. From 1979 through 1991, he worked for Bell Labs of AT&T, Boeing, and two other high-tech firms before coming back to Taiwan in 1991. From 1991 to 1998, he worked for ITRI and served as the Director of Computer Communications Research Division in CCL (the forerunner of ICL) and was later promoted to its Deputy General Director.

Achievements and Contributions

  1. Led NCTU Team to receive 35M & 9M (up to May 2020) from funding agencies in 2019 & 2020 respectively
  2. Led NCTU team to receive 40.4M from MOST, MOEA, &MOE, 2018
  3. Led NCTU team to receive 337.6M from MOST, MOEA, & MOE and Industry 2012-2017
  4. Led to set up Broadband Mobile Lab and SDN P4/CORD Facility & Testbed in 2011 and 2017 respectively, those labs benefited the research of 5G, IoT, SDN, NFV, P4, and M-CORD
  5. Led a team of more than 30 professors of NCTU and NTHU to get significant grant and matched fund for a major league of industry-academia collaboration program, 「SDN-enabled and Cloud-based Wireless  and Broadband Networking Technologies and Services」from MOST and industry then served as the PI to execute and completed the program successfully 2014-2017
  6. Through the success of SDN program, NCTU the leadership in advanced networking technologies and earned a good reputation in the Open Networking (ON) Community, Consequently, NCTU received two major and  the other from MOE (Open Intelligent Connectivity, 高教深耕特色研究中心)
  7. During the industrial R&D work for ICL & CCL of ITRI, led a team of more than 1,000 researchers (scientists and engineers) to improve the quality and upgrade the capability of Network and Communication industry 1991-1997 & 2001-2009
  8. 2020 (this year) led a NCTU&NMYU to apply for MOST’s industrial-academic research project (related to private 5G management for healthcare application). Proposal submitted July 21, wait for the announcement of the status
